Lawn Fertilization
Grass lawns, like most plants, get the nutrients they need from sunlight, water, and soil. Why, then, add fertilizer to your lawn? There are many reasons to supplement with a balanced fertilizer: First of all, the soils in home yards are usually lacking in nutrients and can easily lose more over time. Grass requires at least 16 essential nutrients for normal growth, and if just one is absent, the turf will not be healthy. Also, these essential nutrients are almost never present in ideal amounts. This means that the grass is less able to combat weeds and other pests, and it takes greater damage from stressors like drought or frost. Lastly, fertilizer brings a basically healthy lawn to the next level. Our carefully crafted fertilizer program will maximize the color, thickness, and longevity of your lawn.
Weed Control
Weeds are the number one enemy of beautiful lawns. Weeds not only ruin the look and texture of an otherwise perfect lawn, but they compete with grass for sunlight, water, and nutrients. Our weed control techniques use the best, broad-spectrum herbicides that kill unwanted weeds down to the root. The sprays we use will not harm grass and are safe for children, pets, and wildlife. Our lawn care visits are timed throughout the season so that weeds are prevented from taking root in the first place, and any that come up are quickly eliminated.
Lime
Adding pelletized limestone to the grass at least once a year is one of the most beneficial and least understood lawn treatments. Instead of adding nutrients to the soil or combating weeds, liming alters the acidity of the soil, making it more alkaline. This change to the soil chemistry makes natural chemical reactions happen more easily, which in turn makes the nutrients essential for plant growth more available to the grass. In Pennsylvania, our soils are normally on the acidic side, and become more acidic over time without treatment. Regular lime application according to current pH levels are an essential part of any effective lawn care program.
Aeration
Western PA is known for its heavy, clay soils. This means our yards are very susceptible to compaction, making the ground less hospitable for the roots of plants, especially grass. The best treatment for this condition is regular aeration, where thousands of tiny plugs are dug from the turf using special equipment. This loosens the soil for the grass roots and allows for deeper penetration of water, seed, and fertilizer into the ground.
Grub Control

However, some species have a larva or “grub” stage of their lifecycle that eats the roots of turf grasses. In large numbers, these grubs can easily decimate an otherwise healthy lawn, especially invasive species. Our grub control products are applied at key times during the year when the target insects are most vulnerable. This keeps the pest population down and the lawn at maximum health.
Overseeding
Sometimes the best way to fight lawn pests and diseases is to let the grass do the fighting for you. Yearly overseeding will contribute to thick, healthy turf that will choke weeds and fight off disease. We use a customized blend of seed varieties that are best suited for PA.
Mosquito, Flea, and Tick Treatment
Nothing ruins the enjoyment of a beautiful outdoor space like biting insects, especially for families with young children and pets. These pests are not only a nuisance but can transmit some nasty diseases. Our professional mosquito, flea, and tick treatments target the perimeter zones of your property with a focused insecticide spray with every visit. Safe for humans and pets, this selective chemical treatment kills upwards of 99% of parasitic insects.
Dethatching
Thatch” is a layer of decomposing plant parts that lies between the green blades of grass and the soil. The thatch layer not only gives turf its “spongy” feel under the feet, but it insulates the grass roots from sudden temperature changes and helps retain moisture. However, too much thatch can lead to soggy soils and brown, thin lawns. We use specialized equipment to remove excessive thatch when necessary to reinvigorate your lawn.
Tree & Shrub Fertilization
Lawns are not the only part of the landscape that benefit from supplemental nutrition. If you have trees and shrubs that are not looking their best, an application of fertilizer tailored for woody plants may be just what they need.
Total Vegetation Control
Weeds don’t limit themselves to the grass, as any homeowner knows. Seeds drift in on the wind, get dropped by birds, or suddenly take root in disturbed soil after lying dormant for years. Soon there are tufts of green all through the cracks in your patio, unwelcome vines are creeping along the fence, and strange flowers are growing out of the downspout. These weeds make the home look messy and can cause structural damage if left unchecked. Total vegetation control treatments will stop persistent plants from growing where they aren’t wanted.
